I have to admit -- I feared mall withdrawal when I first
moved here from Cincinnati. Gladly there was no need to fear. Instead of
a mall filled with the same trendy things, Hillsboro is filled with a multitude
of quaint one-of-a-kind shops with locally made wares. It's quite likely the
person behind the cash register actually owns the establishment.
The success of these Mom and Pop Shops is greatly assisted by the Hillsboro
Uptown Business Association, or HUBA as it's known locally. The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association (HUBA) was
started in 2006 by a group of Uptown Business Owners. Their Mission is to
nurture and assist the growth, improvement and expansion of both existing
and new businesses and services offered in Uptown Hillsboro.
HUBA sponsors such things as "First
Fridays" where the shops and restaurants stay open late, cruise-ins, art
walks, baby contests, Boofest, a BBQ challenge, just to name a few.
Additionally they keep the downtown area filled
with beautiful planters spring, summer and fall.
Still afraid of mall withdrawal?
It's only takes 45 minutes of beautiful country roads to get to the
nearest one.
